Altered Composition Notebook

I've been meaning to enter the TCP Challenge #1: Altered Notebook and it seems time has gotten away from me.  The deadline to submit an entry is tonight at midnight.  So, since I really wanted to enter and make my very 1st attempt at altering a notebook, after work, I decided to go ahead and create my altered notebook.  This will be part of my stepson's Christmas gift.  He is 14 years old and likes to write and draw....but hates to read.  So, I thought I'd make up a "journal" for him to write down his thoughts and/or draw in....for this reason, I didn't do anything to the inside really.  Although, I did add a pocket to the front inside cover using the same card stock used to cover the front and back of the composition book. (Forgot to take a pick though...sorry.)

Well....Haven't posted a project in a while....

I realized I haven't posted a completed project in a tad over a week. I've completed a couple items - just haven't had time to take pics. Last week I made a birthday card for my boss...I'll try and post it in the next day or two. (promise)

I've also been working on a stationary box and some note cards. I've been trying to make 1 - 2 note cards each week. Once I have the set completed, I'll post a pic of the entire set.

Woo Hoo....What a Surprise!

As I was doing my daily check of all the blogs I subscribe to and follow to read the updates for today, I was reading the post on the In the Cottage Studio's blog about the Blog Hop winners and as I was nearing the end of the post I saw my name listed as the first prize winner. I couldn't believe it -- I had to reread the post just to be sure. :)

My prize is a really cute stamp set -- Thoughts of an Egret.

What a way to end my day -- and on 09/09/09, no less. Woo Hoo.....now I'm off to bed. :)

Cricut Celebrates 100th Cartridge

Cricut has just released their 100th cartridge! Can you believe it - 100?? I didn't realize there were that many...boy, am I'm missing a ton. :)

The 100th cartridge released is the awesome Winter Woodland cartridge...and it's out just in time for you to start all of your holiday projects. This cartridge is a ton of fun and has some great surprises on it. It has a really pretty font on it (not shown on the back of the box)-- which is one of the special features. You can use this cartridge to make 3-D houses...really cool!

Check it out at: http://www.cricut.com/shopping/ProductDetails.aspx?id=361&s=1&sc=2

I've already used this cartridge a bit on some note cards I am working on for a Christmas present and plan on using it quite a bit more in preparation for the holidays.

Congrats ProvoCraft & Cricut! I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us with the next set of cartridges released.

P.S. In honor of this achievement, Cricut is giving you a chance to win a cartridge. Check it out on the Cricut messageboards.

New Challenge Site

While checking out the Cricut messageboards earlier tonight, I came across a post from a member that mentioned a new challenge blog that she is hosting with her friend. The blog is called "The Crafting Pot".

I decided to check it out......and.....the blog looks like it will be really cool. They are hosting various challenges - every Wednesday there will be a new challenge.

They have some awesome sponsors as well. I look forward to seeing how they use the various tools/materials that the sponsors sell in their challenges.

The 1st challenge is to alter a notebook. I'll have to give that a try...hopefully one night this week after work, I'll get a chance to play. If not, definitely this weekend.

Stop by their blog and check it out and leave them a comment....be sure to mention I sent you. :)

Stamp Storage

I finally went through and got all of my stamps organized. I decided to use the CD case storage method that I kept reading about. I put a piece of white cardstock in the cover and stamped each image contained in the CD case so it would be easy to see what was in the case. I used my Dymo label maker to put the stamp collection name on the side of the CD case. I put all of the CD cases in a container I bought at Ikea a few weeks ago.

Embossing Folder Storage

I scraplifted this storage idea from the Cricut messageboard... I got some baseball card storage pages as well as some 5 x 7 photo storage pages. I then cut black cardstock to fit the pockets, used my Dymo labler to print out the labels, and then I used velcro to "seal" the 5x7 pockets to keep the embossing folders from falling out. I'm storing the pages in a zip up binder.

Bridal Shower Card & Tags

Well, it's been a long week and unfortunately I didn't get much "crafting" done this week...although I did spend some time on the Cricut message boards.

Friday night, I did finally manage to play with my E for a bit. I made a bridal shower card and some gift tags as I was attending a bridal shower on Saturday afternoon. The bride-to-be is marrying my husbands best friend -- they have been friends for a LONG time and are more like brothers than friends. The groom and bride-to-be are very dear to us and we love them dearly. I am so thrilled for the two of them -- they are a very sweet couple and I wish them a lifetime of love and happiness.

School Project for my Hubby

My husband just started nursing classes. Well, last weekend, he had an assignment to make a collage to tell a bit about himself which would then be posted on a bulletin board so the class could get to know their classmates. My husband works weekends and since I'm the "crafty" person in our relationship, he decided it would be a good homework assignment for me.

Expression Dust Cover

I tried my hand at sewing last night and today...I wanted to make a Cricut Expression dust cover.  I used a pattern that I downloaded from Custom Crops and watched their instructional videos on how to make the dust cover. I needed a little bit of extra help getting my mind wrapped around how to piece the end pieces together - and thanks to I s on the Cricut message boards I was able to finish sewing it together.  It's not perfect...but I'm pretty pleased with it.
Thanks for taking a look -- Let me know what you think.

Baby Card

I made the following card to Congratulate my husband's co-worker (and his wife) on the arrival of their son. Their son was born last week - so over the weekend, I worked on the card. I used the Cuttlebug to emboss the tag on the front using the Sizzix Baby Set embossing folder and then used a rubber stamp and embossing powder for the inside. I used a clear stamp from Studio G for the front and then added a bit of ribbon to break up the front a bit.

(Sorry the pics are a bit dark - I had to turn off the flash as the flash made it impossible to view the card at all.)

PageMaps Site

It's been a while since my last post....it's been a bit of a busy week. Wednesday I took the day off from work to go to school with my hubby for his CNA graduation. After we got home, I ran to Wal-Mart to see if they had any "goodies" in the crafting clearance section. I bought a couple small things but nothing major. After I got home, I decided to completely rearrange my craft room...I moved just about every piece of furniture and got everything situated the way I want...at least I think so. :)

Anyway....so today I was reading through the messages on the Cricut messageboards and there was a post about PageMaps. Interested, I decided to check it out. The site provides you with "maps" for scrapbooking layouts, cards, tags, etc. It is awesome! Since I'm not very creative when it comes to scrapbooking -- I tend to just arrange the photos and put on some stickers -- I am glad to have come across this site. The site owner puts up page maps each month and you can even look at the archives for maps from past months. You definitely ought to check it out, if you ever feel like you are in a rut or stumped.

Get Well Soon Card

Well, I spent my Friday night cruising the web and Cricut message boards as well as making a Get Well card for a little girl about to undergo surgery. Below is a picture of the card I came up with. It's still pretty simple, since I'm still new to card making...but I'm really enjoying it. I made the card using my Cricut Mickey and Friends and Cuttin'Up Cartridges and the Cuttlebug D'Vine Swirls embossing folder. I also added some acrylic rhinestones to "bling" it up a bit.

Enjoy and feel free to comment. :)

Holiday Planner

During the past week, I worked on a Holiday Planner that I gave my MIL for her birthday present. She loves the Holiday season and after seeing some of the newer versions in the Gallery of the Christmas Planner site (OrganizedChristmas' focus site), I was inspired to create one for her that she can keep with her while she is shopping. The original version of the Holiday Planner was a 3-ring notebook, which while it gives you lots of room, can be a bit burdensome to take with you when you are out and about.

Recent Project(s)

I've been working on a couple of recent projects using my Cricut. Unfortunately, I can't post pics just yet as they are a present for my MILs birthday and I'm not sure if she is aware of my blog just yet and reading posts. We are going out to celebrate her birthday this evening....so I'll more than likely post some pics tomorrow. I just have to remember to take the pics today before heading out since I haven't taken any yet due to the camera battery having died.

I'm going to head out to Michael's and AC Moore today to check out what they have. I have some 50% off coupons that printed out when I went there last weekend that are only good today. Of course, I have those coupons in addition to the weekly coupons that I've printed off from the internet.

Craft Room Surprise

I just had to share how fabulous my hubby is. While I was at work and at my hair appointment, he was hard at work cleaning out the garage and rearranging the living room. I knew nothing of this until I got home around 9:30 pm. When I walked in, I was pretty surprised. I knew he had moved the desk from the downstairs living room to my craft room upstairs. He kept telling me that my craft room was a mess as he didn't know how I would want it arranged and he didn't know where to put anything. Well, he kept pushing me to go to the craft room....which I was dreading as I was anticipating a MESS.

Well, low and behold, I had a huge surprise when I opened the door. My husband had not only moved the desk in there, but he had gone ahead and set it up as well as organized it so that I have a space to scrap and do crafts. He moved the other desk that was in there around so that I have space to setup my Cricut and other tools and still have room to move. :)

Wasn't that just awesome of him? I can't wait to start working in it.

Shopping Sites??

Well, I've been looking at the craft stores (i.e. Michael's & AC Moore) as well as Wal-Mart and Target for an assorted pack of embellishments as well as some "bling" to add to my scrapbook pages and craft projects. I can't seem to find any embellishment assortment packets that have a variety of items. I also haven't been able to find any "bling". I guess I'm going to have to do some digging into some online sites to see what I can find. The only bad thing about that is that I'm working on a project that I need some embellishments/bling for and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. If you have any suggestions on sites or places to look, please leave me a comment. I would appreciate any suggestions you have.

Also, I've been browsing through the blogs I follow/subscribe to and reading through the message boards at cricut.com and really like the way projects turn out when they are embossed. I guess my next "big" purchase, if I can convince my hubby :), will be an embossing tool/machine.

Welcome - First Post

Wow, my 1st post...

I am new to the world of scrapbooking. My MIL got me into it a couple of months ago and I've slowly gotten more and more into it...I'm a work in progress. :) I am "addicted" to the variety of accessories, paper, etc that are available. Anytime I go to a craft store, I automatically go to the Scrapbooking section to see what new items they have and what's on sale. ;) I tend to buy quite a few stickers with each trip...even though I have a Cricut Create and could create my own embellishments.

I'm creating this blog in hopes of being able to share some of my projects. I enjoy visiting blogs of fellow "scrappers" and seeing their amazing creations. Although I'm not nearly as creative, I thought it might be fun.

Thanks for stopping by!
